The land use data (1990) was obtained from the CORINE Land Cover at a 1:100,000 scale produced by the European Environment. The land use data was regrouped in the following nine land use classes: 1 - urban; 2 - cropland; 3 - grassland; 4 - woodland and forest; 5 - heathland and shrub; 6 - sparsely vegetated areas; 7 - wetlands; 8 - marine inlets and transitional waters; and 9 - rivers and lakes.
